Over Health-RI 
Health-RI is een non-profit organisatie en realiseert een nationaal gezondheidsdata-infrastructuur voor onderzoek, innovatie en beleidsontwikkeling in Nederland. De beschikbaarheid van gezondheids- en levenswetenschappen data is essentieel om onderzoekers, zorgprofessionals en bedrijven in staat te stellen beter data-gedreven onderzoek en zorginnovatie te realiseren. Zo dragen we bij aan de verbetering van de gezondheid van burgers en patienten. 

Wij werken aan een lerend zorgsysteem door het bevorderen van de FAIR-principes (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable). Als nationale coordinatiehub stimuleren wij samenwerking tussen alle stakeholders binnen het data-gedreven ecosysteem van gezondheids- en levenswetenschappen, ondersteunen we onderzoekers, en nemen we deel aan internationale initiatieven om wereldwijde interoperabiliteit te bevorderen. 

Health-RI heeft financiering ontvangen van de Nederlandse overheid om deze ambities de komende jaren te realiseren, met als doel een duurzame opzet en financiering van de gezondheidsdata-infrastructuur in Nederland te bereiken. Via het TDCC-LSH-programma verbreden we onze scope naar alle domeinen van levenswetenschappelijk onderzoek, ook buiten de menselijke gezondheid. 

Health-RI coordineert het Thematic Digital Competence Center Life Sciences & Health (TDCC-LSH), een door NWO gefinancierd programma dat gericht is op het versterken en harmoniseren van digitale onderzoekspraktijken binnen de levenswetenschappen, biomedische wetenschappen en gezondheidswetenschappen in Nederland. Het TDCC-LSH-programma ondersteunt daarnaast actief de transitie naar Open Science. 

Jouw rol 
Wij zijn op zoek naar een zeer gemotiveerde collega die een leidende rol zal spelen in het bevorderen van technische afstemming en de implementatie van een onderzoeksdata-workflow door FAIR-bronnen te verbinden en zo de interoperabiliteit van data, datasets en tools binnen onderzoeksinitiatieven in het Nederlandse LSH-onderzoeksdomein te verbeteren. 

Als lid van het TDCC-LSH-team verzamel je eisen en bestaande oplossingen, waarbij je deze inzichten gebruikt om workshops en coderingsessies te organiseren met belangrijke stakeholders in het veld. Je inspanningen zullen zich richten op het bevorderen van betrokkenheid en co-creatie, waarbij je experts samenbrengt om oplossingen te convergeren en concrete stappen te zetten richting technische interoperabiliteit van onderzoekstools en workflows. Het uiteindelijke doel van je inspanningen is het ontwikkelen van een uitgebreide, geïntegreerde onderzoeksdata-workflow die de efficiëntie en samenwerking binnen het Nederlandse Levenswetenschappen & Gezondheid (LSH) domein verbetert. In deze rol fungeer je ook als betrouwbare bioinformaticus/technisch adviseur en primaire contactpersoon voor stakeholders binnen het TDCC-LSH-netwerk, waarbij je als expert begeleiding biedt over het interoperabel maken van dataresources. Je werkt nauw samen met onderzoekers, onderzoeksinfrastructuren en organisaties om innovatie en harmonisatie in het digitale onderzoekslandschap te bevorderen. 

Jouw profiel 
Wij zijn op zoek naar iemand met: 

• Opleidingsachtergrond: Een diploma in data science, bioinformatica, informatica of een gerelateerd vakgebied, bij voorkeur op post-master- of PhD-niveau in levenswetenschappen of gezondheidsgerelateerde domeinen. 
• Kennis van FAIR-principes: Vertrouwd is met standaarden, tools en middelen die aansluiten bij de FAIR-data principes. 
• Technische expertise: Praktische ervaring (1–3 jaar) of sterke basiskennis van de architectuur achter het bouwen en implementeren van technische infrastructuren om semantisch rijke en machine-leesbare (meta)data-schemas te publiceren volgens de FAIR-principes, bij voorkeur binnen het gezondheids- of levenswetenschappen-domein. 
• Technische vaardigheden: Ervaring met ETL-pijplijnen, microservices-architectuur, Python, kennis van containerisatie (Docker, Kubernetes), begrip van datastandaarden en ontologieën in de levenswetenschappen (bijv. FHIR, RDF, SNOMED CT), bekendheid met bioinformatica-workflows en -pijplijnen, kennis van API-ontwikkeling en integratie. Ervaring met AI-modellen is een pré. 
• Innovatief denken: Bekendheid met knowledge graphs en hun integratie met Large Language Models (LLMs) is een pré. 
• Soft skills: Sterke analytische, probleemoplossende en communicatieve vaardigheden. Je functioneert goed zowel zelfstandig als in teamverband en hebt ervaring met community engagement of samenwerking met diverse stakeholders in complexe, multidisciplinaire omgevingen. 
• Talen: Goede beheersing van Nederlandse en Engelse taal (mondeling en schriftelijk). 

Jouw taken 

• Ontwerp en implementatie van gemeenschappelijke workflows en tool assemblies voor levenswetenschappen en gezondheidsdata: Bouw, implementeer en verfijn de architectuur achter technische infrastructuren, waarbij je zorgt voor consistentie en interoperabiliteit tussen projecten of initiatieven. 
• Bevorderen van afstemming van tools en werkwijzen binnen netwerken: Ondersteun interoperabel, verantwoord datagebruik en vertaal internationale ontwikkelingen naar lokale best practices (zoals Data Stewardship Wizard, Castor, REDCap, ISA tools, SURF Research Cloud, cBioPortal, Galaxy, FAIRDOMHub en data-archieven zoals EGA). 
• FAIR (meta)data praktijken: Werk samen met stakeholders om FAIR-gealigneerde semantische (meta)data frameworks te implementeren, zodat data Vindbaar, Toegankelijk, Interoperabel en Herbruikbaar is. 
• Use case-implementatie: Pas je technische expertise toe op specifieke use cases, ter ondersteuning van data-gedreven oplossingen in onderzoek, innovatie en beleid binnen het levenswetenschappen en gezondheid domein. 
• Documentatie en richtlijnen: Werk samen met (inter)nationale levenswetenschappen- en gezondheidsdatagemeenschappen om workshops te faciliteren die interoperabiliteit bevorderen en best practices demonstreren. Ontwikkel uitgebreide documentatie en richtlijnen voor best practices om de interoperabiliteit binnen het TDCC-LSH-netwerk te verbeteren. 

Ons aanbod 
We bieden je een baan aan in een jonge en dynamische scale-up organisatie. Een plek waar je echt bij kan dragen aan maatschappelijke impact. Ons kantoor is gevestigd in het Beatrixgebouw in Utrecht, op loopafstand van Utrecht Centraal. Je kunt hybride werken, waarbij we wel verwachten dat je meer dan de helft van de tijd naar kantoor komt. Je krijgt een vergoeding voor reizen en voor thuiswerken. We bieden je een arbeidsovereenkomst aan voor de duur 1 jaar met uitzicht op verlenging. We hebben een 38-urige werkweek, 232 vakantie uur (bijna 6 weken) bij een fulltime invulling, zijn aangesloten voor pensioen bij het ABP en kennen een 8 % vakantie-uitkering in mei en een eindejaarsuitkering van 8.3%. De functie wordt -op basis van opleiding en ervaring- ingeschaald in schaal 10-11 van de NFU-CAO.

To strengthen our team, we are seeking a colleague with a background in life sciences and health who specializes in bioinformatics and data interoperability. 

Health-RI coordinates the Thematic Digital Competence Center Life Sciences & Health (TDCC-LSH), which is an NWO-funded programme aimed at strengthening and harmonizing digital research practices across life sciences, biomedical sciences, and health sciences stakeholders in the Netherlands. The TDCC-LSH programme also actively supports the transition to Open Science.  

Your role 
We are seeking a highly motivated colleague to take a leading role in driving technical alignment and implementation of a research data workflow assembly by connecting FAIR resources to improve the interoperability of data, datasets and tools among research initiatives in the Dutch LSH research field.   

As a TDCC-LSH team member, you will collect requirements and existing solutions, using these insights to organize workshops and coding sessions with key stakeholders in the field. Your efforts will focus on fostering engagement and co-creation, bringing together experts to drive convergence in solutions and establish concrete steps toward technical interoperability of research tools and workflows. The ultimate goal of your efforts will be to develop a comprehensive, integrated research data workflow assembly, enhancing efficiency and collaboration across the Dutch Life Sciences & Health (LSH) domain. In this role, you will also serve as a trusted bioinformatics/technical advisor and primary point of contact for stakeholders within the TDCC-LSH network, providing expert guidance on making data resources interoperable. You will work closely with researchers, research infrastructures and organizations to drive innovation and harmonization in the digital research landscape. 

Your profile 

We are looking for someone with: 

• Educational background: A degree in data science, bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field, preferably at the post-MSc or PhD level in life sciences or health-related domains. 
• Knowledge of FAIR Principles: Familiarity with standards, tools, and resources aligned with FAIR data principles. 
• Technical expertise: Hands-on experience (1–3 years) or strong foundational knowledge of the architecture behind building and implementing technical infrastructures to publish semantically-rich and machine-actionable (meta)data schema’s according to the FAIR principles, preferably within the health or life sciences domain. 
• Technical skills: Experience with ETL pipelines, microservices architecture, Python, knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), understanding of data standards and ontologies in the life sciences (e.g., FHIR, RDF, SNOMED CT), familiarity with bioinformatics workflows and pipelines, knowledge of API development and integration. Experience in AI-models is a plus. 
• Innovative thinking: Familiarity with knowledge graphs and their integration with Large Language Models (LLMs) is a plus. 
• Soft skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. You thrive in both independent and team settings and have experience with community engagement or collaborating with diverse stakeholders in complex, multidisciplinary environments. 
• Languages: Good proficiency of Dutch and English, both spoken and written. 
   

Your tasks 

• Design and implementation of common workflows and tool assemblies for life sciences and health data: Build, implement and refine the architecture behind technical infrastructures, ensuring consistency and interoperability across projects or initiatives.  
• Drives alignment of tools and practices across networks, supporting interoperable, responsible data use and translating international developments into local best practices (such as Data Stewardship Wizard, Castor, REDCap, ISA tools, SURF Research Cloud, cBioPortal, Galaxy, FAIRDOMHub, and data archives like EGA) 
• FAIR (meta)data practices: Collaborate with stakeholders to implement FAIR-aligned semantic (meta)data frameworks, ensuring data is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. 
• Use case implementation: Apply your technical expertise to specific use cases, supporting data-driven solutions in research, innovation and policy in life sciences and health. 
• Documentation and guidelines: Collaborate with (inter)national life Sciences and health data communities to facilitate workshops that drive interoperability and demonstrate best practices. Develop comprehensive documentation and best-practices guidelines to improve interoperability within the TDCC-LSH network.

We offer you a job in a young and dynamic scale-up organisation. A place where you can really contribute to social impact. Our office is located in the Beatrix Building in Utrecht, within walking distance of Utrecht Central Station.  

You can work hybrid, although we do expect you to come to the office more than half the time. You will be compensated for travel and for working from home. We offer you an employment contract for the duration of 1 year with the prospect of extension. We have a 38-hour working week, 232 holiday hours (almost 6 weeks) when working full-time, are affiliated for pension with ABP and have an 8% holiday allowance in May and a year-end bonus of 8.3%. Based on education and experience, the position is graded in scale 10-11 of the NFU CAO.
