Biobanks & Collections

What are we doing? 

Biobanks & Collections focusses on three main activities:

• Promoting harmonization by (further) developing and implementing procedures, guidelines, and standards for biomaterial, image, and associated data collections based on evidence and (inter)national alignment.
• Providing support by (co-) developing, implementing, advertising, and supporting Health-RI services that enable the finding and sharing of biomaterials, images, and associated data.
• Distributing knowledge with added value for the biobanks and collections via websites, contribution to current discussions, and gatherings of the community, such as the annual Biobanks & Collections Day.

Biobanks & Collections contributes to the Data team that has been established to optimize the synergy between the hands-on experience of Biobanks & Collections with the semantic expertise of FAIR Data to come to the practical implementation of the tools and assets developed within Health-RI.

Where we come from?

Biobanks & Collections combines and builds on former activities of Parelsnoer (an initiative of the university hospitals) and BBMRI.nl (a national large research infrastructure). Biobanken & Collections has a diverse group of stakeholders and is regionally, nationally, and internationally active, thereby also acting as Dutch node of BBMRI-ERIC.
