Making Collections Findable

Biobanks & Collections supports researchers in the process of finding data, biomaterial, and image collections for scientific and innovation purposes. Additionally, collection holders are assisted in making their collections findable for data users.

Finding Collections:

• Collections available for research can be found through various catalogues, including the Health-RI Metadata portal, the Dutch BBMRI.nl Catalogue, and the European BBMRI-ERIC Directory.

Making Collections Findable:

• Collections can be made discoverable for research by including them in the Health-RI Metadata portal, the BBMRI.nl Catalogue, and/or the BBMRI-ERIC Directory.

• For further information on offering collections through the BBMRI.nl Catalogue, please use this link and the instructions in the BBMRI.nl Catalogue.
• Collections included in the BBMRI.nl Catalogue are automatically synchronized with the BBMRI-ERIC Directory.

Costs

Each UMC has its own financial structure regarding issuing samples and/or data. Please contact the regional Biobanks & Collections coordinators of UMCs that have samples available that you are interested in if you want more information.

Review procedure

 There is not yet a harmonized national procedure available for reviewing issuance requests. In addition, not every issue request needs to be reviewed by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) in every UMC. Therefore, please contact the IRB before submitting or contact your regional Biobanks & Collections coordinator.

In case of a multicenter initiative, the review procedure may need to be conducted at each participating UMCs.

Issuance

When issuing samples and/or data to a third party, it is customary to draw up a Material and Data Transfer Agreement (MTA/DTA). This sets out agreements between the sender and recipient about the use of the samples and/or data.
