Mutual Recognition (of biobank assessment)

Project overview

The assessment of biobank research (not subject to WMO) was organized differently in all University Medical Centers (UMCs) of the Netherlands, leading to an inhomogeneous assessment. Consequently, a multicenter biobank study often had to go through a different process at each center, with different documents being reviewed. This inefficient proces, causing a high regulatory burden with large time investment for both, researchers and biobank review committees, is being addressed in the NFU project Mutual Recognition. The aim of the project was to achieve a smoother and unambiguous assessment of multicenter biobank research.

Key deliverables

• Model templates (participant information folder, collection protocol and research protocol)
• Comparable assessment of biobank protocols by biobank committees at academic hospitals
