Information for citizens and patients

Contributing to better health for us all

At Health-RI, we are committed to improving the exchange of health data, for example data stored by healthcare providers. We focus on the use of health data for research, policy, and innovation, but not for direct healthcare. By establishing a national infrastructure, we enable better reuse of health data.

Our goal is better health for everyone. Better reuse of data helps achieve this. For example, by enabling more scientific research into improved treatments.

Want to know more about the use of your health data?

Would you like to know why health data is reused and for what purposes? And what about security, privacy, and control? You can find this information on Gegevens Verbeteren Levens.

Visit the gegevensverbeterenlevens.nl website!

This website was created by Health-RI and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. It is part of a communication toolkit with flyers and presentations that healthcare providers can use to inform their patients.

Trust and societal support

Health data concerns all of us. Therefore, it is important that the infrastructure is safe, trustworthy, and aligned with the expectations and wishes of citizens. The views of citizens (including patients) must therefore be taken into account. To incorporate the perspective of society, Health-RI has a Societal Advisory Board. This board represents the public interests of Dutch society, including patients. The board advises the management and contributes to various Health-RI projects. They also organise public conferences, working sessions, and societal dialogues. The Societal Advisory Board consists of:

  • patients and their representatives;
  • citizens;
  • people with an interest in research into (an infrastructure for) health data, including participation of healthy participants in data research.

Important topics that the board focuses on are:

  • control and decision-making transparency
  • provision of information
  • security
  • reciprocity
  • trustworthiness of the health data infrastructure.
