Obstacle removal trajectory

Towards an integrated national health data infrastructure

Collaborative commitment to remove obstacles that block the (re)use of health data for research and innovation

The ministries of EZK, VWS and OCW and Health-RI have committed to jointly identify and remove current obstacles. The Health-RI board and management, the National Growth Fund Committee, the relevant ministries, and the field parties involved realize that creating the right conditions and removing obstacles is essential to the success of this project. This is summarized in the following ambition:

Our joint ambition is to realise an integrated health data structure in the Netherlands, based on FAIR principles, to collect and process data in a safe and standardised way, and, while guaranteeing privacy, make data findable and accessible for reuse by healthcare professionals, researchers, and companies under the right conditions. We aim to remove obstacles and to create optimal conditions across the entire process chain for the reuse of healthdata, to enable a learning healthcare system.

The aim is for this to result in a national trust framework (Afsprakenstelsel). To realize this, a governance has been set up with a steering committee and a tactical group with (initially) representation from the three ministries and Health-RI.

We would like to invite everyone to actively participate in the implementation of the plans of action of the Obstacle Removal Program.
