Regional nodes
Realizing the national health data infrastructure requires collaboration with many different stakeholders. In addition, governance and responsibility are needed from both Health-RI and the parties involved in implementation. Therefore, Health-RI maintains formal and informal collaborations with a broad coalition of organizations at international, national, and regional levels, including formal collaborations with the “regional nodes.”
A regional node provides governance over connecting and unlocking health data from its own region for the purpose of the national infrastructure for secondary use. Concrete agreements are made with the regional nodes, and close collaboration takes place to realize the objectives as effectively as possible (including those outlined in the plateau planning). To this end, regular meetings are held between the Health-RI Hub and all regional nodes, among others in the form of task groups—where multidisciplinary teams collaborate on specific deliverables—and working groups, where specific expertise is exchanged. In addition, the Health-RI Hub meets regularly with all strategic and tactical leads.
Each regional node has a so-called “Head of Node,” who is responsible for agreements and changes at the strategic level, as well as a tactical lead, who serves as the primary point of contact at the tactical level and as a “co-lead” of a task group. In addition, each regional node has members who participate in the task groups and working groups organized by Health-RI.

Organization of the Nodes
A well-structured organization within the regional nodes, involving the right people, expertise, and roles, is crucial to enable rapid coordination and the adequate and efficient execution of actions. The short lines of communication within the regional nodes and knowledge sharing at the national level through central meetings are intended, among other things, to facilitate the development of best practices, enable knowledge exchange, and ensure alignment.
The eight nodes share the same organizational structure, consisting of:
- Head of Node / strategic lead
- Tactical lead
- Expertise area: Ethical, Legal, and Societal Issues (ELSI)
- Expertise area: FAIR Data Implementatie
- Expertise area: Architectuur
- Clinical data
- Imaging data
- Biosamples & omics data
- Federated analysis
- Data portal
- Expertise area: Biobanken & Collecties
- Expertise area: Services
Knooppuntendag
During the annual Knooppuntendag, representatives from all nodes come together to jointly work on the agreements that have been made. Below you can read the reports of the Knooppuntendag from previous years (in Dutch)
