Dutch Government has pledged 69 million euros investment to Health-RI
The Dutch government has decided to grant the proposal of Health-RI for a national health data infrastructure. With the investment of 69 million euro’s from the National Growth Fund, Health-RI can quickly take the next steps to make health data more accessible for research and innovation. That is excellent news for health research, health care, the Dutch economy and Dutch citizens.
The COVID-19 pandemic has shown the importance of an integrated data infrastructure to respond quickly to health threats. The first elements of a national data-infrastructure for health research are already underway. The grant from the National Growth Fund provides Health-RI the financial means to further expand it. Together with many partners, including the university medical centers, Health-RI can now develop the infrastructure needed to securely store, combine and make health data accessible for research and innovation.
Within Health-RI healthcare professionals, researchers and companies work together on better care and new solutions for diagnosis, treatment and prevention.
Health-RI and the National Growth Fund
The Dutch Government will use the National Growth Fund to set aside € 20 billion over the next 5 years for investments that contribute to economic growth. The Ministries of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy; Health, Welfare and Sport; and Education, Culture and Science, submitted Health-RI's proposal to invest in a national health data infrastructure in January 2021. On the advice of an independent committee of experts, the cabinet has decided to honor Health-RI's proposal.
