December 2023
- The HDAB program officially starts. In this program, a consortium of VWS, Health-RI, RIVM, CBS and ICTU and a large group of stakeholders will develop the needed business capabilities for a Health Data Access Body in the Netherlands. Learn more about the program here.

November 2023
- The Ministery of Health gives an update about developments on the EHDS negotiations in Brussels. Join the EHDS community here. Some interesting highlights are:
- The standing parliamentary committee of VWS agrees on a motion to opt-out for data availability for both primary and secondary purposes.
- The Health Data Access Body will conduct an ethical assessment of requests for pseudonymised data.
- Dataholders should update their metadata on a yearly basis.
- Member States may set up an intermediary entity for data holders who should be exempt from the regulation.
July 2023
- The European Commission accepted the Dutch grant application for setting up a Health Data Access Body in the Netherlands. A consortium consisting of VWS, Health-RI, RIVM, CBS and ICTU will start the project organization. The program HDAB-NL will start in December. See our HDAB-NL page for more information.
April 2023 - September 2023
- TEHDAS has delivered the results of all work packages they have carried out for the European Commission. Reports vary from stakeholder consultations on the technical infrastructure and implementation proposals to proposals for cross-border collaboration and citizen engagement. March 2023
- The European Parliament and the European Commission have expressed the ambition to reach an agreement on the EHDS before May 2024.
February 2023
- The negotiations in Brussels on chapter IV (secondary use) have started.
- The ministry of VWS organized a consultation on chapter IV in the EHDS (secondary use). Health-RI participated to represent the interests regarding secondary use in the Netherlands.
- A growing number of Member States is joining the Health-RI Informal European EHDS Network.
January 2023
- Health-RI participates in a consortium with CBS, RIVM, VWS and ICTU to develop and implement Health Data Access Bodies in the Netherlands. The execution of the plan will start in July 2023 and will take up to 4 years.
December 2022
- Several Member States agreed to join the Health-RI Informal European EHDS Network. What challenges does each country have and what can we learn from each other?
